Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of data is available?

GEO I/O's API provides comprehensive variety of IP-based data, including ISP, city, state, province, country, zip code, postal code, area code, latitude & longitude and more.

How accurate is the data?

Even though geo location by IP address is not as precise as many would like, it is still pretty darn good and remarkably helpful, considering that there are more than 4 billion possible IPs constantly changing hands.

GEO I/O compiles several sources of data to achieve 99% accuracy at the country level, 85% at the state/regional level, 80% at the (US) city level (within a 25-mile radius), and 60% accuracy for cities outside of the US. The data is stored in a proprietary format, limiting our ability to make individual changes to it, however the database is updated monthly by our data providers.

How often are the databases updated?

The country, region and city databases are updated weekly; all others are updated monthly. These updates generally reflect a data change of less than 2% per month, but this can vary.

What does it cost to use GEO I/O?

GEO I/O is free for users with less than 1,000 queries per 24-hour period. For those who need high-volume access, there are subscription level options to fit any budget, starting at $10 per month.

What is the GEO I/O uptime?

99.998%, operating in a Class-A, fully redundant (N+1) facility with 100% carrier neutral IP connectivity and 24/7/365 server monitoring.

Do you include AOL IP data?

Yes. However, due to the way AOL routes their traffic through proxy servers, Canadian AOL users can appear to come from the U.S. and some French AOL users can appear to be from Great Britain or Germany.

We can't target AOL users on a state and/or city level because of the way AOL routes traffic from multiple states through the same IP address, most notably, Reston, Virginia.
